GENERAL OVERVIEW

Housing is one of the principle basic needs of human beings.  Every one of us desires to secure shelter for his or her family.  Unfortunately, the Muslim communities in Massachusetts, and elsewhere, have been facing the dilemma: Whether to buy a house and indulge in interest or, forget buying a house altogether to avoid interest.  Many of us were led to believe that since we have no alternative, it is all right to pay interest.  Yet others, although well settled economically, still hold the view that no matter what, indulging in “Riba” is forbidden by Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala.

While this discussion and debate continues, some concerned Muslims took to the challenge of creating an alternative system of housing finance and development that is consistent with Islamic moral and religious values.

INSTITUTION BUILDING
We are required, as per the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (SAWS), to establish institutions that conform to our moral and religious values. When Muslims support SHARICA Housing Cooperative and other similar institutions, Insha Allah, there us tremendous potential that these can one day provide the infrastructure for commercial real estate, automobile, business, Islamic center and masjid financing, college scholarships, and even Islamic insurance schemes.

REWARDS FROM ALLAH SUBHANAHU WA TA’ ALA
Investors earn Halal profit and also earn Thawab since they help other members and avoid usury.  Investors support those who are Sabiruan (Patient) and avoid Riba only for the sake of Allah SWT.

Allah SWT has said, “You (true believes in Islamic Monotheism, and real followers of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and his Sunnah) are the best of peoples ever raised up for mankind, you enjoin Al-Ma’ruf (i.e. Islamic Monotheism and all that Islam has ordained) and forbid Al-Munkar (polytheism, disbelief and all that Islam has forbidden), and you believe in Allah……” Al-Quran, Surah Al-Imran (Chapter 3: Verse 110)

In addition, it is a Dawah opportunity to inform coworkers and acquaintances that the member owns shares in this housing cooperative and has acquired quality housing without a interest-free mortgage loan due to his/her belief in Al Islam.

We urge everybody to read our By-Laws and Regulations carefully and invest in Sharika Housing Cooperative of Massachusetts Inc. with confidence in Allah’s (SWT) blessings.

Remember, only Allah (SWT) can truly guarantee funds and investments, and for that matter, anything!
